چکیده

In previous reports a compile-time prediction technique has been introduced that yields lowcost, highly parameterized performance models, to be used during the initial optimization loops in parallel system design. Aimed to provide an acceptable accuracy in the face of resource contention the approach is based on a combination of asymptotic bounding analysis and critical path analysis, yielding an analytical lower bound estimate. In this report we present an initial study into the accuracy of the analytical technique compared to the result from simulation in terms of both theory and experiments. For simple models it is conjectured that the maximum relative error of the lower bound estimate is typically independent of the system size and can be approximated by a simple expression. For complex models it is shown that the average relative deviation of the estimate is limited and predictable. A simple operational model parameter is proposed which provides a good indication of the credibility of the estimate. The validity of the overall technique is shown through a case study which involves dataow style execution of various statically mapped computations on a distributed-memory machine. This report concludes a series of reports which will form the basis for a thesis describing our approach to the performance modeling of parallel systems.

Compile - time Performance

A compile-time technique is outlined that yields low-cost, analytic performance models, intended for crude scalability analysis and rst-order system design. The approach extends current static techniques by accounting for any type of resource contention that may occur. In this paper we report on the accuracy of the prediction method in terms of theory , simulation experiments, as well as measur...

The Pamela Approach to the Performance Simulation of Parallel and Distributed Systems

We present a new methodology for the eecient performance simulation of imperative, explicit parallel programs running on shared-memory or distributed-memory (vector) machines. The methodology is based on a program and machine speciication formalism called Pamela (PerformAnce ModEling LAnguage), and an associated calculus which allows performance models to be optimized prior to subsequent simula...

A study on the accuracy of motion tracking of thoracic tumors at radiotherapy with external surrogates

Introduction: In radiotherapy with external surrogates, exact information of tumor position is one of the key factors that improves treatment delivery. Many dynamic tumors in thorax region of patient move mainly due to respiration and are known as intra-fractional motion error that must be compensated, as well. One of clinical strategy is using Stereotactic Body Radiation Thera...

Predicting Parallel System

A compile-time prediction technique is outlined that yields approximate, yet low-cost, analytical performance models of parallel systems, to be used for parameter optimization during the initial design loops. In this paper we present the technique and report on its accuracy when compared to results from simulation as well as to measurement results on a distributed-memory machine.
